What Is Toxic Self-Talk?
We all have an idea of what toxic relationships feel like. Whether they’re platonic, romantic, or professional, they always cause undue harm to the people involved.
What would it be like, then, to be in a toxic relationship with oneself?

Internal Fights,
Where Even Victories are Defeats
Toxic relationships make you walk on eggshells. Adds an edge to the best of meetings. When the person you're in a relationship with is yourself, this means your guard will always be up.
Toxic relationships make you walk on eggshells. Adds an edge to the best of meetings. When the person you're in a relationship with is yourself, this means your guard will always be up.
You end up trudging around the same problems, a sense of hopelessness accompanying every possible solution.
Maybe you try to spend as little time thinking as possible, distracting yourself with whatever seems important enough to take priority.
At its best, this is draining and disillusioning. At its worst, it can be almost paralyzing. I don't need to tell you how damaging that can be both personally and professionally.
You may have heard of Gottman’s Four Horsemen of The Apocolypse, the term coined by psychologist Dr. John Gottman to describe the four communication toxins that ruin relationships.
The four horsemen - criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and stonewalling - may be showing up in your own self-talk and batter at your self-esteem far more often than you’re aware of.
Ask yourself: If I were 100% in control of my thoughts, what in my daily life might be different?
Having insight into the toxins and how to handle them more constructively can not only save you from feeling really bad about yourself and your life; it can also help you be more productive and have more healthy interactions with the people around you.
Join the Workshop and Tame the Horsemen
This 1-hour live workshop will educate you about the nature of the toxins, how to recognize them, and how to turn them around so you can use their counterparts for the better.
When you can identify the toxins, you will have more awareness of how you contribute to their presence and of how to avoid or reduce their negative effect.
At the end of the hour, you will walk away feeling empowered in your own self, with exercises and tools you can employ to tame the horsemen when they show their faces.
